Twenty four king palms lead the way to the entrance of the gleaming white Art Deco facade it is a result of the vision the British had for New Delhi, a planned city that would emulate all the best aspects of a modern major capital. The Hotel was built by Bromfield, a protégé of Sir Edward Luytens in 1931 and is surrounded by a green oasis of lawns. The rooms are split into the Heritage and Art Deco wings, the largest Heritage rooms offer 550square feet and are detailed with individual pieces of antique furniture including large wooden armoires and desks in a Victorian colonial style, complimented with Persian Rugs and exquisite lithographs by the Daniells brothers. The Art Deco Suites are larger in size and are sumptuously modern, providing vivid contrast of chestnut wood, a mix of dark leather and light toned soft furnishings.
The top of the range suites provides sitting area, dining area allowing for up to 12 guests, a study area furnished with large comfortable desk, chair and lamp and complimented with internet access and printer. The master bedroom offers an expansive 450square feet housing beautiful four poster king size bed, hosting deliciously comfortable pocketed spring mattress and exclusive linen from Porthault, this room also hosts seating for six people.
The en suite bathrooms are spacious lavishly appointed with large walk in shower, steam room, sauna, marble baths Jacuzzi and double vanity, complemented with bathrobes, slippers and Frogonard toiletries.
The amenities and facilities are extensive and include: in room safe, private bar with fridge, climate control, and dual line phone with data port and voice mail, high speed wireless internet, Bang and Olufsen TV and DVD player, hairdryer, tea/coffee maker, free national newspapers and 24 hour room service.
This Hotel proudly boasts the restaurant called ''The Spice Route'' and was heralded by Conde Nast as one of the top ten restaurants in the world. The restaurant serves south East Asian cuisines and has been cleverly designed to reflect the journey of the spices from the Malabar Coast in Kerala, through Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia to Thailand and Vietnam. The stunningly beautiful decor depicts this journey truly immersing patrons in a total sensation of taste and place.
The 1911 Brassier, Bar and veranda lounge is spread over three areas and provides a wide variety of cuisines that are locally celebrated. 1911 was when Delhi was declared the capital of India by King George V it is elegantly decorated with historical memorabilia and overlooks the Imperial lawns.
The Italian speciality restaurant draws its inspiration from a small Italian town in Tuscany called San Gimignano, The Italian fare is a delicious treat and is accompanied by a premium selection of Italian wines and grappa the ambience is further enhanced as the restaurant leads out gracefully to its own terraced courtyard called Paradiso DiVino. Here carved gazebos, cane furniture, fountains and exotic greenery provide the perfect soothing backdrop to the delicious anti pasta buffet, a-la-carte menu and wood fired pizza oven.
The Patiala Peg is one of the most popular bars in Delhi perhaps because it is so well known for its larger tot sizes or pegs a normal peg is 60 mls this bar serves 75mls as its usual quota.
The Atrium offers a high domed ceiling, tropical surroundings and tinkling fountains provides the ideal atmosphere for the genteel art of taking Tea, this celebrated colonial ritual introduces guests to fine china, cubed sugar and delicious blends of fine tea. Sweet pastries, cakes and finger sandwiches are beautifully presented by the ever smiling staff.
